Most electrical shops run two businesses under one roof. Service is reactive and margin-rich: half the house has no power, a breaker keeps tripping, a panel is old enough to be a known hazard, someone needs a charger in before the car arrives. New construction runs on the general contractor's calendar, bills on progress with retainage held to the end, and can sit for months between rough and trim. Both sides hit the same drag. Any real job needs a permit from a municipality with its own portal and fees, then a rough inspection, then a final — and the inspector sets that schedule, not you. Dispatch has to respect licensing: a journeyman on the work, apprentices in ratio, a master's license on the permit. And a two-hour service call turns into aluminum wiring in every box.

What Electrical Contractors teams ask first.

Can you work with the field service software we already run?

Yes. Nearly every field service platform used by electrical contractors offers an API or a supported export, and we build against it. Where a system is genuinely closed, we work around it with structured imports. You are not migrating years of job history to work with us.

How do you keep an AI from sending a truck out for something that is not urgent?

You define the triage rules and we encode them. Burning smell, sparking, water near the panel, or a commercial account under contract escalates to the on-call phone. A dead outlet in a spare bedroom gets booked for morning. Every call is logged so you can tune the rules.

We do both service and new construction. Can one system handle both?

The reporting differs, since service is measured in tickets closed and average ticket while construction is measured against a budget and a draw schedule. The underlying data can be shared: customers, addresses, permits, labor hours, material costs. We build one set of records with two views on top.

Can you help with the new construction side — progress billing and retainage?

Usually, yes. Progress billing needs a schedule of values per job, the percentage complete per line, and retainage held and released correctly, and most electrical shops run that in a spreadsheet next to their accounting package. We build it as a proper record that produces the pay application and posts to accounting, with the retainage balance visible so it is not forgotten at closeout. The estimating and permit data feed it, so a job is set up once.

We are busy enough already. Why would we want more calls booked?

Booking more is not always the goal; booking the right ones is. Answering every call lets you choose which work to take instead of getting whichever jobs happened to reach a person. Typically that means favoring panel upgrades, generator installs, and repeat commercial accounts over one-off outlet calls, and quoting the rest at a price that makes them worth it. A full calendar with better average tickets is usually a better outcome than a fuller calendar.
