Software, vision, and automation engineering for California manufacturers

California manufactures more than any other state, across an unusually wide spread of sectors, and its plants compete under high labor and real estate costs that make automation math compelling. Willowark serves California manufacturers and hardware startups with machine vision, custom software, and production automation.

Because our model is remote-first, California clients get East Coast engineering without paying Bay Area rates, and we fly in for integration, installation, and commissioning when the work is physical.

How manufacturing runs here

California's industrial base, as we find it.

California's industrial economy spans aerospace and space hardware in Southern California, electronics and semiconductor design in Silicon Valley, one of the world's largest food and beverage processing sectors in the Central Valley, plus medical devices, biotech manufacturing, and a dense population of hardware startups moving from prototype to production.

California's mix of hardware startups scaling to production and established plants fighting high operating costs plays to our strengths in custom software, machine vision, and automation retrofits.

Common questions

Asked by teams in California.

Do you travel to California for on-site work?

Yes. We come on-site for installation, integration, and commissioning phases at California facilities, and run design, software, and support work remotely. Multi-visit projects are normal and planned up front.

Do you work with California hardware startups moving into production?

Yes, that is a core client profile for us. We help startups design test fixtures, automated assembly and inspection stations, and the manufacturing software they need to scale from prototypes to repeatable production, either in-house or at a contract manufacturer.

Does the three-hour time difference cause problems for California plants?

Rarely, and sometimes it helps. Our workday starts before your first shift, so overnight issues are often being looked at before your team arrives, and design reviews land in your morning. The trade-off is your late afternoon, which falls after our normal hours; for startup periods we typically arrange extended coverage so someone is available through your second shift. Central Valley and Southern California plants are as easy for us to serve as the Bay Area.

Engineering for California manufacturers.

Describe the problem in your own words. An engineer reads it — not a sales script — and tells you plainly what it would take.
